On the 9th of February it was inaugurated the first electric shuttle bus that functions thanks to solar energy and is able to take around 120 passengers each way. This new shuttle bus is recharged through the electric charging station at Palermo Airport “Falcone Borsellino” which takes the energy from the solar panels system installed within the Airport. “The Green Fleet of Palermo Airport will expand with more electric cars and buses and more electric charging stations in the next few months” said Paolo Zincone, CEO of Gh Italia, and Fabio Giambrone, President of Gh Palermo - “Green transition in automotive within airports has already reached the presence of 60% more of ecological cars/shuttles in airports managed by Gh Enterprise, like Napoli and Venezia Airports, and it is improving also in Bologna Airport”. Since 2019 Palermo Airport is part of the Net Zero 2050 Protocol with the aim to reach carbon neutrality and be a clean-energy-supplied airport by 2050.
